On UCG Current Crisis website, Abigail Cartwright posted “International Ambassador Outreach – Introductory Letter, Mission Statement, Goals”. While there has been talk for some time about supporting the Latin American brethren who used to be a part of United Church of God, this is the first time I’ve seen a name or address attached to any effort.
I don’t know the people involved, so I cannot vouch for either their trustworthiness or untrustworthiness, so I encourage you to check them out before donating money. In fact, even if I did know them, I would be prone to advise checking them out. That’s just the world we live in.
Anyhow, I digress.
I want to bring this up because there seems to be a misconception amongst a few (or, at least one) that somehow Latin America has huge assets that UCG might be missing out on because of this split. The fact is that due to circumstances beyond their control, most of them are quite poor. There are no huge assets there. The US administration has heavily subsidized the Latin America region for some time.
It’s a pretty good bet that none of the Latin American members are leaving for the money, to keep the money or to walk away with any “assets”. That’s pure nonsense.
Frankly, both sides have a lot to lose in this particular disagreement.
