Recently, the Telegraph posted an article on “What led to the fall of the Roman Empire?” As they point out, this has been debated by scholars for some time. In addition, there was no single point of failure that led to its decline.
In the end, though, the article sort of misses the point. They argue it wasn’t debauchery because of the rise of Christianity. What they don’t recognize is that it was a very different “Christianity” that emerged than the one Jesus founded, with different customs, different beliefs and the beginnings of a very different view of God.
This leads to the question: Even if America were to return to its Judeo-Christian roots, would it be enough to turn this country around from its current decline? Perhaps not.
