I have this idea for a novel. A President is voted into office, but he has a hidden agenda. As catastrophe after catastrophe takes place, he gradually takes control of the banks, the financial institutions, the auto makers and the oil companies. The banks in turn take possession of peoples’ homes, the oil companies seize all land along the gulf and the auto makers convince everyone that they are making cars more fuel efficient while in reality it’s just an illusion to drive up the price of oil and cars alike.
Finally, the President appoints cabinet members to be over each of these areas, dissolves Congress and declares himself President for Life. There are no jobs except for state jobs, and no one can afford a sustained campaign against the President. He now controls all natural resources, including land, houses and the surrounding waterways, plus all jobs.
What can I say? Seems far fetched, right?
There are 31 million currently unemployed, including those who have given up looking for full time work.

And, just when I thought I was done editing this article, I see that MSNBC.com recently reported “Jobs may tell state of the economy this time” with the tagline “Employment usually lags pace of growth, now it may be best indicator”. There are now some claiming we are in a “double dip” recession. After a brief upturn, the evidence is beginning to look like it is heading south again.
We need to wake up to the fact that economics touch all parts of our lives. Consider our aging satellite technologies and how they are affecting our GPS capabilities. Admittedly, COGWriter Dr Robert Thiel has kept up on that more than I have. While much of what he wrote in “USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected” is promotion for his book, can we really read the article and not be concerned? As he points out:
Linking up with Galileo puts the USA at major risk of not being able to launch an effective counter-strike if the EU attacks the USA. Do Americans not remember that the wars in Kuwait and Iraq were waged first by the USA having vastly superior air/space systems? And now the USA’s financial mess is leading the USA to rely on other nations for part of this capability. The world is changing and the USA is losing its military supremacy. And top powers that lose their military supremacy have historically been taken over by others. Yes, this satellite matter is that serious.
We descendants of Joseph need to get back to basics and remember what God told ancient Israel before we bring further curses upon ourselves as a nation and a people.
